Club Information

About Us

The club was formed in 1977, but our origins go back long before then (see the History). Our main squad sessions take place at Belper Leisure Centre in Belper, whilst our learn to swim programmes take place in Heanor and Alfreton. We provide competitive swimming for children of all ages and also have a Masters section for the adults.

Regular training sessions are held at Belper on Friday and Sunday evenings, with additional sessions by invitation on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, plus Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday Mornings. The learn to swim program Mini Marlin takes place at Heanor on Thursday evenings and at Alfreton Saturday mornings.

We pride ourselves on being a family-oriented club – all of our teachers, coaches and committee members are parents (or occasionally grandparents) of swimmers at the club. We have worked hard to establish a real team identity at galas, with the swimmers smartly turned out in club colours giving mutual support to their team mates. The club shop stocks a number of items bearing the ‘Belper Marlin’ brand, including T-shirts, costumes, kit-bags and caps.

We encourage parent participation, and we are grateful for the many parents who help out at galas and time trials with timekeeping, stewarding and officiating duties.

Competition

The club runs a number of home friendly galas throughout the year. These take place at Alfreton and we usually attend one or two away galas.

We also take part in the Derbyshire county championships, plus the county sprints events in November.

In the spring of each year our junior squad takes part in the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire junior swimming league.

In the autumn the club also takes part in the National Arena League, this is for our elite swimmers aged 9yrs to open.

Our open meet is a big event on our calendar each October, and we regularly attend other open meets, through the year.

Our Promise

We at Belper Marlin Swimming Club are dedicated to teaching and coaching to the highest standards.

We will develop each and every swimmer to reach their own full potential within the sport of swimming.

We will progress all swimmers as per their ability, from the learn to swim programme right through to top flight swimming.

We will give swimmers the opportunity to take part in competitive swimming. This is not compulsory, and occasionally a younger swimmer might request not to swim in galas. Usually they change their minds when they hear the other kids talking about their gala experiences, and once they’ve tried a gala they are usually hooked!

About This Website

The Website is a tool for the club to communicate information to Marlin swimmers and parents, and to publish dates, results and feedback of galas and competitions. It is also a means to communicate information to other clubs / swimmers regarding Marlin friendly galas and our annual open meet.

The committee are very aware of safety issues on the website, and we will never publish contact details of any club members, including phone numbers, addresses or E-Mail addresses. Contact can only be made via the link on the Contact page – any E-mails received on this address can only be viewed by the web site owner, who will forward these to the appropriate committee member for action.

We will not publish any photographs of Marlin swimmers in their costumes, nor will we publish any photos of Marlin swimmers without their parent’s consent. However we would like to use the site to publish photos of swimmers (in appropriate attire and with parental consent) receiving Marlin of the Month / Year awards or County recognition.
